ITT: Games with endings that surprised you.

Pic extremely fucking related, I did not expect any of that. So it turns out that Kratos has feelings other than rage and has tremendous issues with his paternal instincts, and that he's capable of caring about people other than himself and his dead family. I was completely shocked when he sacrificed himself to release hope into the world instead of killing Athena. That is some fucking hardcore character development. Shit genuinely moved me and made me want to cry. Fuck you, God of War. This is not what I thought this series was about. ;___;

PROTIP: If you post spoilers for relatively new games that not everyone has played yet without using spoiler tags, you're a faggot.

The entire ending of Killer7.

OKAY I DON'T KNOW SPOILER TAGS YET SO I'MMA TRY IT AND HOPE FOR THE BEST BUT SERIOUSLY THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING

Garcian Smith, the main character, goes to a school after getting a clue to go there. everyone besides him dies, and he ends up going back to a hotel, where he got the clue, to find out his past. It turns out he was the original personality, not Harman Smith, and he killed all of the other personalities when they were human and absorbed them into his being. He goes up to the roof and sees himself in a past life, committing suicide, and as he opens his briefcase, he finds the weapons of the other personalities, except for Harman and himself.

That is actually the most shocking ending I've ever witnessed in a video game. Ever.

Fable III.
The whole rest of the game was immensely dissappointing, but WALTER NOOOOOO YOU WERE THE BEST FUCKING CHARACTER. I actually cried. Fuck you, Lionhead.

Seconded. Shadelight scared the crap outta me personally, but in that way that made it awesome.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

You are in this quirky village. Then mysterious things happen. You investigate calmly and then BAM: EVERYONE IS A ROBOT
I certainly didn't see THAT coming. Well played.

Phoenix Wright - Trials and Tribulations

The final case is almost over. You went to hell and back to put this bitch Dahlia Hawthorne in her place even beyond her own death. She tried to murder you and your friends, she never had any thought of regret, she tried to kill your loved ones from beyond the grave. In a crowning moment of awesome you get rid of her once and for all. CUE REJOICEMENT AND ME THINKING THE CASE IS OVER

... Then the prosecutor tells you that you haven't found the murderer of the current case yet.

THEN IT TURNS OUT HE'S THE ACTUAL KILLER

MY FUCKING FACE

It's a new game I don't care if everyone's already played it I'm spoilertagging it anyway!

When you plug Wheatley into the mainframe, I became genuinely unnerved by his laughter. Then even more unnerved when he turned GlaDOs into a potato.

I know I probably should have expected it though, him being a small round robotic entity with an annoying, British voice. ;) Hell, he even gets flung into space at the end. Sheesh.

Bioshock. Always and forever.
Everyone pretty much knows what the big twist was but I'm posting spoiler tags anyway.

Seriously, my heart tore in two when I found out Atlas was Fontaine and that he was using Jack the entire time.
Also the whole "would you kindly?" bit completely blew my mind. I didn't even fucking realize how often he used that line until I got into that room and the flashbacks played.

I had never been so emotionally gripped by a game until Bioshock. So much so that my mind insists that it's a movie and I will wake up in the morning feeling like "watching" Bioshock.

In retrospect, it wasn't too surprising BUT STILL.
Wheatley and Chell were supposed to be bros and defeat GLaDOS together with the power of friendship and science.
I love the little core, but my God did he betray an entire fandom.

Just wait for the upcoming crossover game of Layton and Wright. Shit will be so cash.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

Seriously game. Seriously. Everyone is dropping acid and sharing the SAME hallucination? And they all just HAPPEN to HALLUCINATE that they are dead before opening the box? I am sorry but that is bullshit and you know it. You're lucky I'm such a big fan.

Prototype Alex Mercer is dead, having died in Penn Station after he released the virus that killed a whole hell of a lot of people. The name of this virus is Blacklight. Guess who you are? Yeah, go figure. You're in Alex's body because you reanimated it, and have been running around believing yourself to be him. Life sucks, huh? On the bright side, though, at least you're not the complete and utter monster that the real Alex Mercer was.

this really got me like...OOOH MAAN WHAT THE FUCK WHYY SHIT OH FUCK FUCK

I admit that I wasn't even sure the game was about to end until I beat the boss and the credits started rolling. I said aloud, "Oh, that's it?"
Wish I hadn't lost my copy though. I have no idea where it went, I think someone stole it.
