Let us discuss the underdog of the 2010 big-name shooters, Bad Company 2.

I love Battlefield BC2 for many of the same reasons I play TF2 endlessly- cooperation and team-play are integral to actually winning rounds in this game.

The parallels between the two are plentiful- they're both class-based shooters after all. You've got Medic class (love-child of The Medic and The Heavy), Assault class (product of savage man-sex between The Soldier and The Demo), Engineer class (he can put things together, and take them apart with even greater ease), and Recon class(just like in TF2, he's not simply *just* a Sniper)

The Engineer, just like in TF2, is the most fun class for me to play- and Rush mode is the ONLY mode for me. Rush mode is pretty much TF2's CP Attack/Defend: BLU team destroys two points of interest in RED team's base, and RED team has to retreat to another base further back.

So, who else around here plays Battleteam Fieldfortress 2?

Riiight. Anyways, The classes should be familiar to anybody who's played the Battlefield games before, For those who haven't:
Assault is the general soldier class. He's got a assault rifle with a 40mm grenade/smoke/shotgun attachment and can throw down ammo boxes for his buddies.

The Engineer is the anti-tank/vehicle support class, He's got a suppressed SMG or carbine and a rocket launcher or AT mines, He's also got a power drill that can be used to repair vehicles or kill people.

The medic has a light machine gun and defib paddles for reviving teammates/shocking people to death, Like the assault he can throw down medkits to help the blood fall off your face faster. If you're not gonna be reviving people just go play Assault.

Recons (aka wookies) get sniper rifles and either C4 or some binoculars which call in a mortar strike. He also gets motion sensors, They're basically a grenade you throw out, and if any enemies are moving through it you hear a beeping and they show up on the mini-map.

Now, The guns, None of them are really better than the others. The AEK (Starring assault rifle) doesn't suffer from damage drop over distance. The 09A-91 (same for Engineer) deals the most damage of any non-recon weapon, With a 4x it's practically a sniper rifle.

The non-class specific weapons include assorted handguns (which will save your ass), a tracer dart gun, a Thompson SMG, M14 and G3 battle rifles and shotguns. Plus people who own previous Battlefield games get a M1 Garand. Assaults who pick one of them get C4 instead of a 40mm.

There are also the perks, You get three of them as you progress through the ranks. Two for your self and one for vehicles, They range from more/better ammo/explosives to body armor, red dot sights and improved accuracy. Whereas the Vehicle ones improve armor/reload rate/warhead damage or give you a coax MG.

Oh yeah, And if you want to actually help your team out, Spot stuff.

I've recently discovered this game during the steam sale.

Holy shit, I can't stop having fun. Especially since unlocked 'King Carl - bringer of 84mm justice'. This game is practically an interactive war film.

Yeah, spotting is one of the biggest credits to team, more people should realize it EXISTS. With the simple press of a button, you'll highlight on your team's map and HUD exactly where you're seeing enemy players and vehicles in your sights. The same button is context-based and you can call for different things (Medic, Ammo, Repairs) depending on who you're pointing at.

like in TF2, the Medic class can rack up massive points out of healing and reviving. You can easily make Ace in a round without having to mow down countless enemies. You CAN though, since the Medic's sustained fire from his Machine Guns are like a combine against defenseless enemy crops. It's infuriating to see 3 Medics run by your corpse and not revive you.. You would THINK they'd like the free points.

The Carl Gustav makes me rage the same way I rage when a Demoman blows me up at my spawn sight unseen from his own spawn. I'm an RPG-7 fan myself- its flight is not nearly as quick and straight, but it packs a wallop on tanks and helos (especially with Explosive specialization). The curved flight means you can send it over far obstacles as well.

One very nice mechanic Battlefield has is the Squad. Your team of 16 people can be divided into 4-man squads- being part of a squad means that you get to spawn with your other three squadmates instead of spawning all the way back in your base. It really helps to make pushes, in a sense, it's like having a Teleporter.

Recons have C4 and Motion Sensors, meaning that they are meant to get into the thick of things and help out their team, but a lot of the Wookies like to stay at Spawn and snipe across the map, which is quite detrimental when a squadmate wants to spawn into the thick of the action, only to realize his spawning option is... perched 6 miles away from the planted bomb.

The recent Vietnam expansion changes up a lot of things, removing a lot of the tech stuff (high-power scopes, tracers, motion sensors), leaving a nice and gritty experience that's very refreshing for anyone that has been playing vanilla BC2 for a long while.

Enough with the "omg guyz just like tf2!!1!" spergtarding already.

Basically the rocket launchers work like this:
AT-4: Small blast but most effective against vehicles, Rocket is as fast as the Gustav but takes a couple seconds to reach max speed.
RPG-7: Medium blast, medium vehicle damage, Rocket is slower than 40mm grenades, but it gets a boost against darted targets.
Carl Gustav: Largest blast but lowest vehicle damage, Fastest rocket.

Also, Shotguns vs helicopters.

No need to snap brah. You don't need it explained to you, but if someone doesn't know about Battlefield, it's easier to explain by drawing similarities to something that a TF2chan lurker IS probably familiar with. I guess you missed my tongue, deep within my cheek, what with that picture I shooped and as I mentioned "savage man-sex between The Soldier and The Demo".

Also, I haven't seen it in months (think it was slightly nerfed some time ago), but I remember slug sniping being terribly annoying before.

And I guess you missed the drawing at the top of the page of the medic dressed like a playboy girl.

Anyways, I mainly play on the PS3 and I've found that shotgun sniping of chopper pilots isn't that common on it, probably 'cause the sticks aren't as accurate as a mouse.

Might as well post a link to this, Stats for all the guns:

A friend of mine very recently got the game, and while showing him all the things you could do, I told him about shotgun slugs, and then I spent this weekend countersniping with the shotgun. I will begrudgingly admit that it was impractically *hilarious* to do to people.

I feel unclean for enjoying it- though my favorite kind of trolling is sneaking up to entire squadrons and backstabbing them... so delicious.

I also forgot to post this before, but for anyone unfamiliar with the gameplay, this video was released last year when the game came out, and has a nice break-down of each class.
