My mom thought The Sims: Medieval was an addon for The Sims 3 that let your Sims stage a Ren Faire. Despite how fun that would be, I don't know if I'm ready for a level of geekery where my Sims are going to comic book conventions and Ren Faires...

I would so be ready for that level of geekery.

My mother spent a lot of time after the release of Meet the Medic wondering why every time my brother and I were in the same room, we seemed to be making reference to something only we understood. I then had to go through the awkwardness of trying to explain it to her.

Just the latest in a long line of 'What language are my children speaking' moments she has when we start speaking entirely in video game related quotes. (Though to her credit, she gets Portal jokes and knows all the lyrics to 'Still Alive'. Um, if 'credit' is the right word to use in such a situation...)

My mom thinks games are a waste of time and hates when I buy new games. I've gotten good at hiding my new purchases, but still suspicious about her not telling me off for having Steam. Either she doesn't know how it works, or she's stopped caring. Really hope it's the latter. Dad doesn't play or care much, only if I get more important shit done first and take a daily walk outside.

If I had the money and the time, I'd rather go myself. That's all.

Exactly how my mom is. She was really geeky as a teenager, but now, unless it's Wii Sports or possibly The Sims, it's stupid and a waste of money. I wish I knew how to get her to stop prejudging so much.

My mom likes the old 2D Mario and Zelda games, but when I tried to introduce her to OoT, she thought it was too many words and just wanted to play. Also, she doesn't do too well in a 3D environment.
Man, when it was just Sega and our old Nintendo, she would play quite a bit. scared me one night while playing Nintendo in my room and leaving the Ganon "game over" screen up when she went to the bathroom.in the dark. D:

I also overheard her playing one of my Christmas presents one year.I recognized the level music.
She also beat the Doom mod "Chex Quest" 1 and 2.
Now all she does is play popcap-like games. :C

My dad tries to play games, when my brother bought call of duty for the Wii, my dad decided he was going to play it, so he tries to play, which results in him repeatedly saying " what do I do" as he is being shot repeatedly and the objective is flashing on the screen.

My dad will play a few video games but not as much as he use to when my brother and I were younger when we would play Mario Golf and Mario Kart 64 together and we would watch him play Doom. I need to drag him into my room again so we can play together again on our Wii. My brother took our N64 when he left for college last year.

My mom is actually pretty cool about most of the videogame stuff. Something that she loves to do is sit on the couch and watch my sister or me play a game and she'll do her own commentary or say something dumb to make the game funnier. Somehow she cracks us up every time. Also she likes to make Portal references with me and point out things that remind her of TF2 sometimes. She's pretty cool when it comes to being into what we're into. Some people don't like it when their parents do that, but I think it's pretty neat.

Hey Popcap have some nifty games. I mean they made Plants vs. Zombies and Bookworm.
The last my mum loves to play. (And also my grandpa, grandma.)

Well, my mother bough herself a PSone and got into TombRaider very hard. She is still a big fan of Lara Croft, but else she just plays with us PS2 or Wii Party games. (Except Star Wars Lego, which we both played together. Laughed just the whole time.) Even if sometimes as i still had my GameBoy Pocket she would play Mario Table with it. She misses to play with a gameboy and i suggested she should get a nintendo ds, which has some easy games, which need some brainthinking too. She didn´t want to buy one.

The only different PC Game i ever saw her play than a Popcap one was YOU DON`T KNOW JACK 4. I miss this game.

My parents love to play video games...mostly my dad does. My mom usually just either watches or falls asleep while my dad's playing. My dad's almost through Portal 2. Sometimes, we'll have family game nights, where we all play a multi-player game on the Wii, like Monopoly or Mario Kart. My dad also buys games or TF2 items for me.

My mom is really into superhero MMORPGs. Like, 5 maxed out characters and runs a guild kind of MMORPG player. She had to stop for a while, but now she's found DCUniverse Online and currently unemployed so I'm sure I won't get to touch the PS3 at all.

Dad doesn't say much either way. Mom doesn't mind that I play games really, but sometimes she'll say "you realize you're playing with a bunch of 12 year old boys." Nope, cause I can hear their voices! Used to annoy the hell out of me, when I would be in the same room she'd be like "look this up for me" "I'm gaming" "just look it up real quick" "fine..." *tell everyone to wait a min, minimize game, wait for browser to load cause game taking up all the RAM, look it up, get back in game, usually end up dead* Now she has a laptop and plays farmville and stuff. She doesn't like getting interrupted either!

Not strictly parents, but...my aunt used to be a HUGE video game nerd; my parents had an Atari, and they can recall her staying up late with my father playing all night, and then hearing her continue to play long after everyone had gone to bed. When we were youngins, she would play Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt with us earlier in the morning in lieu of Saturday morning cartoons.

I dunno what happened to that cool lady. One day she just up and quit the vidya. I can't even get her to pick up a Wii for heaven's sake. She just thinks games are babyish now.

Sounds like she's a GAMES WERE BETTER IN MY DAY kind of person. Shame.

Also, my parents occasionally watch every now and then but they don't particularly care one way or the other what I'm doing.

My dad has played the Civilization games for the past 20 years or so, only switching games whenever a new sequel or expansion comes out. Apart from solitaire and the odd Facebook "game", it's the ONLY games he ever plays. That's dedication.

And on the topic of parents and videogames, I have a little nephew who literary became a geek in the womb. You know how they say babies can recognize music that their mothers played when they were pregnant? My sister used to have her laptop on her belly, so the sound of the computer fan was incredible calming to him. So when he was really small and cried, they would sit him right next to his father as he was playing WoW, and my nephew shut up almost instantly and stare at the screen. He would later become very fond of Dragon Age. Or rather the dog, since he wasn't allowed to watch the gory parts. But as far as he was concerned, just having a big digital doggy that barks and rolls around made it the best game ever.

My other nephew like to watch me play Civilization 5 ("Civ!"). He likes the little animations of sheep and foxes jumping around.
