I haven't seen a thread along these lines, so I hope this is the right place to put this.

I am building (or rather, paying for and getting my little brother to build) a brand new rig. We're aiming for around $600-800AUD. I have been gaming on a laptop for a couple of years, and it's starting to fail me.

I have no idea what I'm looking for, here.

I want to be able to play new games on high graphics settings. I want to be able to have Firefox open in the background with no negative effect on the game. I want a wireless card. I want at least 1TB HDD. It would also be nice to have a Blu-ray read/write drive and clear casing, but I understand not all things are achievable when one is aiming for such a low price range.

I've had Ashe suggest an nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card. I now look to the rest of you wonderful people for help.

In addition, I thought a rig-discussing thread could be interesting, as well.
