Since I'm not actually asking about a specific trade, I figured this would be the place to ask.

I recently started to dabble in TF2 again after a very long hiatus, and during my tenure, I picked up a few things. I like things! Things are good. And what's more, there's some other things I wouldn't mind having.

But I'm wondering. When making trades, should that item's value in the Mann Co. Store be something that factors into the trade? For example, I recently picked up a Manmelter, which costs $5.99 in the store. If I were to offer it up for, say, a 99-cent Chargin' Targe, would the taker of my trade be spending the next week or so bragging about this rube he ripped off? Or are one-for-one trades for weapons simply the way things are done, no muss, no fuss? Is it possible that I'm just overthinking all of this?

Personally, I'd consider a trade of something I'd never use for something I'll definitely use a good deal, but at the same time, I don't want to be taken advantage of. So what's the generally-accepted way things work among the community?

Generally speaking, normal weapons are valued at 1 scrap, or 1:1 trade for other weapons. There's only a few that cost more; even the extremely popular Machina only goes for 2 scrap. A Manmelter is incredibly unpopular due to the higher utility of other pyro secondaries. If you bought it in the store, people would be sorry for you. Uncraftable weapons purchased in the store are almost inherently valueless, since they can't be turned into scrap by traders.

Your best bet is to go to the tf2 trade subreddit and see if someone has a weapon shop up. They tend to do 1:1 trades for weapons without any added cost to you. If you can't find one, hit me up on steam; I tend to have spares of weapons lying around, and demoknight is most definitely my least played class.
