I have only a vague notion of where this is going. Forgive any language fuck-ups. Let me know what you think. c: --------------------------------------------------------- It started with a crossed wire. A crossed wire that was an accident of course, because the Engineer would never voluntarily do something to harm his own team. He was tired, cold, and at wits end when it happened. Whoever had designed the base up in Coldfront was either trying to be nice by keeping the electronics close together and not on opposite sides of the base, or… they were too stupid for their own good. The bad part about it was that the temperature controls were behind a steel panel, and right next to a large mass of cables that belonged to the respawn. Engineer tried is darndest not to even mess with the respawn equipment, for fear of messing something up and it having a detrimental effect on him and his team. But unfortunately accidents happen. ~ He fumbled with the wire cutters in his hand, tugging off a small piece of plastic that was on a red wire to he could thread it back together with its other end. For this he used his non-gloved hand, which was numb from the cold. Engineer couldn’t even feel his own fingers. He was glad the thermostat was behind here, that way only he could mess with the temperature, and nobody else on RED could change it willy-nilly. On the downside that meant he would be the one to fix it when something went wrong. And something always went wrong. Whenever they arrived at Coldfront, the first thing Engineer did was repair the heater. As he brought the wires together one of them slipped, swung backwards, and limply hit a dull grey cable that trailed towards respawn. Engineer held his breath. A single spark lit the small space for a moment. Engineer sighed and finished threading the red wire together, the sound of victory in the form of roaring heaters kicking up all over the base making him grin. “Job well done.†~ The first battle on Coldfront occurred a day later. Sniper chose a high perch so he could cover his team as they captured a point. Unfortunately a BLU Spy discovered him. Sniper died with a knife in his back to the sound of a the BLU cloaking. He woke in respawn feeling….funny. ~ Soldier blinked up at the harsh lights of respawn, phantom pains from the BLU Heavy’s minigun littering his body. He sits up slowly, holding the helmet on his head with a large calloused hand, with which he feels a new dent in the metal. He’ll have to repair it later tonight. черт побери. Soldier stops checking his helmet for other dents when he sees the Sniper. More specifically when he sees the Sniper hunched over a small mirror near the cubbies in respawn, fiddling with his hair like…a little girl. “What in Lady Liberty’s name are you doing in here? We need you on the field covering us! WE’RE LOSING MY POINTS MAGGOT!†The Sniper cringes away from Soldier, holding the mirror close to his chest as if to protect it. His brows come up, mouth down in a small frown, a face Soldier has never seen on the aged assassin..almost like he’s sorry. Sniper speaks hurriedly, one hand leaving the mirror to fly up to his hair, tugging on a single lock. “Me hair just didn’t look roight mate, Oi had to fix it-“ “WHAT ARE YOU A HOUSEWIFE? SHOULD YOUR UNIFORM BE AN APRON? NO EXCUSES MATE, JUST GET OUT THERE AND DO YOUR JOB!†Soldier screams at the cowering Sniper, who doesn’t move. “СЕЙЧÐС!†His voiced bounced off the tile walls of respawn, Soldier watching with hawk eyes as the Sniper equipped himself hastily and fled out of the room. Sometimes his team was useless. ~
I'm not sure where this is going, either. But that's okay. Seems like it's an awfully short start. More description would be fantastic. Try to go at least 5-6 sentences per descriptive paragraph.
Soldier speaking Russian and Sniper concerned about his appearance? How curious... perhaps they are absorbing traits/knowledge of their killers? I'm intrigued as to where this is going.
The paragraphs are too short, it's like a collection of single sentences. The idea is intriguing, I'd like to see more.
Sorry about the clipped sentences. I write in word then proofread and copy/paste, and I thought when I c/p'd it smooshed it all together. Mostly what's going on here is some sort of secret is being revealed for all of them when they go through respawn. At first they don't even notice. Some of the other secrets are really cliche I think, but this story won't leave me alone. So here it is. c:
This is interesting. Moar.
Heavy and Medic end up respawning together. Both of them aware of an ache in their skin that no medigun or respawn could fix, thanks to an übered Pyro. Heavy stands first, a determined frown on his face while he waits for the uncomfortable weight of respawn to leave him. This time though, he feels less. Different somehow. He pats his chest and checks himself over quickly, seeing nothing out of place. Heavy knows something is wrong regardless. Medic finally stands, taking the hand Heavy offers him. It doesn’t usually take this long for Medic to get up, but now the doctor hesitates, rubbing gloved fingers over his ear. There’s a small lump, but it doesn’t hurt. “Is something wrong doktor?†Heavy inquires, curiously watching, making sure Medic is alright. The German shakes his head, dropping his hand. “It is nozhing, my friend.†Heavy nods, waiting as Medic hefts the medigun from the floor and checks the various switches. “Come then,†Heavy says, “Let us go kill tiny baby men.†~ Spy narrowly escapes a Pyro’s searching flames, pressing himself tight against the rock wall as the firebug and his pet Medic pass by. His cloak is draining quickly. Spy takes action. The Medic is unaware of his surroundings, and that makes him the perfect target for Spy’s knife. He lets his cloak drain, then strikes quickly. The knife absorbs the disguise quickly, the BLU Medic silently falling to the snow. Spy is going for the Pyro, trailing after him just as the BLU Medic had, but his own RED Scout comes flying out of nowhere, unknowingly close to blowing Spy’s cover. He works with it though, calling for help from the Pyro. Scout jumps away from the charging Pyro’s flames just in time, heat licking at his heels while he whips out his Force-A-Nature to utilize the kickback and fire the scattergun into the firebug’s face. The Pyro sHipstr back, clearly enraged, reaching for the shotgun strapped to his back. Spy works fast, backstabbing the angry BLU and adopting his face. Scout is possibly even more furious, obviously indignant at being used as a last minute decoy. It was his own fault though. “What the hell was that crap?!†Spy just chuckles. “All in a day’s w-“ ~
