So . . . Hello, I'm a former thread stalker and now I have a story line.

RED Sniper and BLU Spy

----

Chapter 1

BLU Spy hussels through the barren landscape over snow packed hard from a barrage of feet. Delicately he maneuvers the most travel worn paths seeking to hide the distinctive footprints from his thin, pointed dress shoes.

He slows his pace as the buildings fade from dull reds to grey marking the no mans land which his team guards nervously.

He scans the area carefully before finally spotting the BLU Medic, sitting next to Heavy by the point.

Spy slinks over to the mercenary, keeping his head bowed and back bent. “Allo.” He greets.

Medic turns to him, face illuminated by the hologram over the point. “Guten Morgen. Vhat did you find?”

Spy sits in ruins surrounding the point and pats his pockets for a cigarette, trying to hide the shaking of his fingers from the German. He pulls out a crumpled pack and continues his hunt looking instead for a lighter.

“They are waiting for our next attack.” The Spy says distractedly, did he drop it somewhere? If he had the REDs would know he went creeping around their camp. Although if his doppelganger was doing his job and not his sniper the opposing team would already know. “And they are guarding the flanks well. Although their gunman is nowhere to be seen.”

“Nein? Vell zat is very interesting.” He chuckles at Spy, noticing the tremble in his wrist , “Didn’t want zee other team to smell you?”

Spy returned the smile forcefully releasing the grip he maintained on his jacket colar, “But of course.” The skin around his masked eyes softened, “You have to have a light Oui?”

“Nein.” Medic’s brow furrows, disapproval making him look older, “You should stop smoking zose, even if respawn keeps zem from killing you. Ze addiction is not healthy.”

Spy laces his fingers together. “Fine,” He dismisses the topic, “what do you propose we do now?”

The doctor looks at his medi gun, which is alternating between overhealing Heavy and Spy. “I almost have an Ubercharge, ve vill vait until zen.”

“Salut, then doctor.” Spy stands hurriedly and darts to his position in the flanks, “and keep your head down!”

Spy continues the search for his lighter, cursing under his breath. In the midst of a push it was unlikely anyone would notice the waft of cigaret smoke preluding the cold metal of his knife.

Pyro waits for him, just where the rogue left him. One shiny addition is clamped in his gloved hands.

Spy’s shoulders drop as he exhales slowly. The Pyro clicks his lighter in vain.

“Give it here.” Spy commands, his voice is haggard with exhaustion.

The Pyro tights his head and stares at him for a long moment before letting the lighter rest in his open palm.

Spy shakes it but calls forth only sparks. “Non, this is no good.” With a groan he sits next to the firebug, holding the lighter up for his companion to take.

The Pyro cradles it sadly and Spy decides against telling the mercenary about the upcoming push. It would just get him worked up, and he had a hard time understanding the concept of future tense.

Spy tries to relax despite in nicotine craving digging at his nerves.

Suddenly Pyro sits up, scanning the huts around them attentively.

Spy follows suit, “What is it?” He whispers.

In answer Pyro runs into the nearby house, flamethrower coming alive in his hands as it spew flames. Spy closes his eyes but can still hear the scream, presumably from his RED counterpart.

Pyro slinks back, with a healed over wound in his shoulder.

“Did he get you? Did you get him?” Spy asks, already knowing the answer.

He signs when Pyro nods and cocks his head.

“He got you but you didn’t finish him off.” Spy cringes inwardly. “I’m going to finish him off, stay here.” After burn was one of the most painful ways to die and he didn’t deserve it. That is to say, his RED doppelganger. . .

But it isn’t his double hunched and burning.

The RED Sniper automatically goes for an arrow but his hand grasps at nothing. He stands hastily and the two start circling, Spy knowing it would be unnecessary to go for a backstab, however it wouldn’t hurt his score . . .

The Sniper still searches for something and Spy takes the distraction to strike.

“Merde!” He curses, realising the trap too late. He rears back, “I hate you.” He screeches, throwing himself against the wall.

The newly extinguished Sniper lears at him, pulling out his bushwacka instead. “Thought you could come up here and win quick blue? Get yourself a nice backstab.” He holds his side and pain slips into his enraged leer.

Spy pulls out his revolver and back peddles, “I was hastening your trip to respawn, burning to death is slow, and your team needs you.”

Sniper lunges for him and Spy dives out of the way, “That a threat?” The RED lurks again.

“Non!” Spy circles around Sniper as he charges, sliding the knife into his side.

The bushman drops to the floor and, sides heaving, the Spy waits for the body to fade or Medics signal. The former happens first.

He returns to Pyro, whose melted the snow into a severely distorted but still recognizable smiley face.

Spy stares, horrified into the larger and more rectangular of the two wide set eyes.

Pyro mumbles happy, pointing to a white dove fluttering across no mans land. Spy shakes himself and the jog quickly through the flanks as the rest of BLU surges the base.

This needs a beta. Badly. There's spelling and grammatical errors everywhere, word choice that doesn't make sense, sentence structures that are hard to read. A beta could also help you with fleshing out your story, as it's feeling a bit spare.

Those things set aside, though, it looks alright. I'll be watching for mohr.

I have been working hard to improve but in all my years I never looked at my sentence structure. (but the grammer is pretty bad although I'm convinced I'm still not finding all the mistakes on the forth rereading).

So, how do I find a beta reader?
If this was hard to under stand then the next chapters will be horrible if I can't get help.

Tons of thanks.

I really like your characterizations.

My email is attached to my name if you need a beta. It wasn't really hard to understand, just some parts of it. For instance, when Sniper threw the jarate, it took me rereading it to realize: Ohhh, piss jar, gotcha.

>>3 Scrunchy has just offered, and if [s]he can't do it, or if you like having a beta harem, I can beta as well. But, in case both of us flake out, or for the reference of other people, Workshop is open to writers as well. Just post a request telling people what your story is about and what sort of help you think you'll need from a beta, and you should get a volunteer or two.
