Cause otherwise, how I figured it - is yea they just push off of stable surfaces/walk along the bottom (like how octopus also do), or use their tentacles like a big paddle of sorts in open water, swimming like an alligator, snake, or dolphin. Tentacles are so muscular and can be squished into broader shapes this would be easy. tldr; analyzing fantasy tentacle monsters like the science dork I am.
