She doesn't strike me as a Mary Sue, per se. Engie's reaction is a little strong for having just met her (though he might be in love with the office itself, that filing system is HOT) but aside from that she's actually just... normal.

Not in the Mary Sue "fake" way either. She was described as pretty but let's face it, that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. This is afanfic, that kind of shit happens because eventually there might be porn or something similar. Not to mention, she's acting normal too. She isn't reacting with "OMG I'M SO NOT PRETTY WHY WOULD YOU WANT ME EVEN THOUGH I'M RICH AND POWERFUL AND WANT FOR NOTHING." She's a slice of life woman just doing her job and being polite.

Frankly I like that she isn't even thinking about them during her work. She knows almost nothing about them and has seen them all briefly once (through the window), for the most part. She has no expectations of getting to know them, necessarily, but is polite when they show up and isn't necessarily against being friends, she just has a job to do which doesn't directly coincide with them so she has no reason to talk to them more frequently. I also like that she has an essentially clerk oriented job. She's not even a receptionist so she doesn't exactly fall under the porn role cliche.

If anything, this might be a semi-realistic parody of the sort of story Anon mentioned, with her being confused before she calmly explains that she doesn't date coworkers and that ends up being that. However, since it's afanfic, I'm expecting something to happen. I'm just not entirely certain what. I'm hoping it is still a nice twist of some sort. Even just a casual one night stand that she regrets (though I'm not sure if that's common or not... I don't tend to read Maid style stories and I've only read a few femme class ones besides that.) I'm almost secretly wishing they'd get a female janitor she can have after-work discussions with.

That said, it's actually kind of disappointing that we don't know much about her. The reader is kept at a distance from her, not knowing what she thinks about when she feels bored by her job and not knowing what she plans on doing after work (or even what she thinks of her work.) That might be intentional but as Drillbot pointed out, it's hard gauging what we're supposed to expect when there's so little to go on. I'd say this would be a better story for the general fanfic section if it's going to stay strictly "slice of life"-ish.

Maybe I have too much faith in Iz but this story hasn't actually rubbed me the wrong way yet. (I have a horrible weakness for bashful Engie... so I'm willing to overlook that for now.) I'll be disappointed if there isn't a decent resolution and she does turn out to be less interesting than I had hoped. Until then, I'll read this story for awhile longer but I'm hoping it'll become clear soon what's going on.
