Hm, maybe we’re just reading the story differently. I got the impression that Soldier and Engineer were already in a consensual relationship and the only non-consensual part was Soldier’s somnophilic rimming.

He wanted what he was never allowed to have. No matter how much he begrudgingly asked, no matter what filthy things he said, Engineer still refused. 'It's just not my thing, Solly.'
This line sounds to me like lovers discussing kinks, not like Engineer being oblivious to Soldier’s advances. It makes me think Engie would probably not react with all-out hatred if he discovered what Soldier has been doing to him; anger and disappointment, yes, but more of the hurt-feelings and less of the murderous kind, the way I read it.

Also, these lines:

Stretching out on his back, Soldier entwined one burning leg with his own - any more contact than that and Engineer's body heat would make sleeping impossible. When he finally would wake, it would be with a series of deep, rolling coughs as if his body were trying to purge itself of slumber. He could change the sheets in the morning.
Make me think that 1) this is not the first time Soldier has slept next to Engineer or woken up next to him, and 2) Engineer wouldn’t think anything odd of Soldier changing his sheets. Again, this indicates a pre-existing consensual relationship to me.

However, the story is still very much non-con! Engie has clearly stated that he doesn’t want this kind of sexual attention and Soldier does it anyway, which makes it rape—but I don’t think either Soldier or Engie would classify it as such in the story setting. Writing a consensual sequel wouldn’t be that far-fetched to me.
