When you consider that Engineer is being torn between his duty to his team and being labelled as a traitor to do what is right as a human being, I'd say that the fact that he did what was right is a bigger deal than you are taking it as. He's putting his own neck on the line here when he could simply keep doing what Spy pays him to do, but he has decided that he can no longer do that with a clear conscious.

It's quite common that enemies will dehumanize the other side in order to justify what they do to them, and prisoners are often considered even lower because they didn't have the dignity to just die when they should have, and for crumbling under torture.

I have to say I'm rather enjoying this, and am looking forward to seeing what comes next.
