She wasn't erased from existence. She became a force of the universe itself: hope. She didn't solve the issue of "bad things" in the world because she realized that they're always going to exist no matter what she does. Utena was more of a "graduated to adulthood" kind of metaphor, while Madoka was quite a bit more literal.
Fuck the haters. I fucking loved the ending and couldn't have asked for anything better, especially with how it managed to set itself up for a sequel. It managed a deux ex machina ending that actually made sense, worked with the plot, and wasn't pulled out of the ass at the last minute (I'm looking at you, Mai-Hime).
