What do you figure the Mercs do in their time off from killing one another?

I've got this sneaking suspicion that Heavy and Medic moonlight on Saturday evenings as a Polka band at all-you-can-eat buffets

Rob Laro, who submitted The Homewrecker, The Black Box set, and was commissioned to do the Shogun/Deus Ex sets, didn't get a free irl version of the Grenadier's Softcap when they released it into the Valve Store. The hat he created.

Apparently Makani wasn't invited to the Steam-Powered Tales signings either, didn't get a free copy of the book, and isn't even credited. Even though she easily draws as much of the TF2 comics as Michael Oeming does in the book.

It irritates me, honestly. I don't have my copy of the comic yet, but if she seriously isn't credited at all in it, I'm going to be furious.

I advise that folks don't get their undies in a bunch over speculation.

Rob Laro is perfectly capable of asking for a free hat of his design. It shouldn't be Valve's sole responsibility to offer a bonus compensation when they already send Rob checks for his content sold in the Mann Co Store. Valve seems generous enough to comply.

And since I do have a copy of the Steam Powered stories, I can confirm that I don't see any credits for Makani or the colorist either. So there's that fact checked. But at least, Makani had been paid for her work and she was still credited on things like Portal 2. It's not a horrible injustice, just a whoops on Valve's or probably Dark Horse's part.

Apologies. I won't bring it up again.

As long as they get paid, I realize that should be enough.

I don't know anything about the Rob Laro situation, but I can address some of the Valve/Darkhorse book issues, since I helped out with the signing and am friends with the editor of the book:

Makani is a contract artist, not an actual employee at Valve. All the other people at the signing were Valve employees that lived in Seattle. The signing (not signingS, there was just one) was in Portland, and while that is an easy drive from Seattle, I doubt they could have flown Makani in from Texas for just one evening of comic signing in a Portland comic shop. Also there are no credits for any of the artists in the book (or at least not proper ARTIST: blah blah COLORIST: blah blah credits), which I thought was a little weird, but they're not singling out Makani there.

Valve is super nice and if anything was overstepped (which happens a lot with companies involving multiple employees), I am sure if the offended parties just asked about it they would be answered promptly. They're nice guys. They like making sure the people who help out with their products get paid for it.

tl;dr calm yourself

So I was playing TF2 earlier and a sniper was trying to climb a ladder for a while, trying to slide up it seeing if that would work.

I looked at his profile, he had about 11 hours playtime, although only a portion of that was actual playing (1.3 hours as sniper at most). In his inventory was a clean High-Five taunt. Lucky bastard.

I'm sure there's stories better than this. F2P stories thread?

Whether it just reminds you of a class or the game in general, I don't care :'D

For me it'd be Mr. Pinstripe Suit by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy... GUESS WHY?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6ICYbiLIsg&feature=related

The lyrics:

Well now friends let me tell you about this cat that I once met,
Smooth talker with an export cigarette
I don't believe I ever saw him without a cocktail in his hand
and he always swings hard to the big bad voodoo band!

Now he strolls through the city like a big ol' alley cat,
with his pinstripe suit and a big bad voodoo hat

I want a fanfic of this now, and the seven deadly sins be represented as a Teammate and devil be Spy (or another class of your choosing)

I patiently wait for such awesomeness, especially from written works from you Cat!
>> No. 10418
Finally had one, although it felt more like I was watching the dream than actually being in it.

It started out in a kitchen/dining area apparently located in the BLU base. The BLU Spy entered the room and walked over to the counter and started preparing a cup of coffee, he reached up to open a cupboard above him and then made this surprised little screech. The "camera" immediately moved behind Spy, revealing that the cupboard was being occupied by the BLU Scout, who looked absolutely freaked out; when he saw Spy he stage-whispered, "H-hey man, you gotta help me out, Medic's been chasin' me around with a freakin' needle all morning! The guy's crazy!" After blinking a few times Spy sighed and muttered, "And yet you are the one who stuffed himself into a spice cupboard." Then a sitcom laugh track played.

A lot of stuff happened before and after, but this was the only part I remember clearly. The only thing I question is why Spy even needed to open the spice drawer if he was only making coffee.

Did you notice how the Ubercharge lasted 40 second in the movie for Heavy, and lasts 20 seconds in the game (split between two people)? I thought that was interesting.

Pic Unrelated, I just love it. Artist?

What are your least favorite things to see in TF2 Fanfic/Fanart?

Mine for fanart would have to be Characters drawn in the Anime style that depict the classes as these impossibly young people with Anime-ish faces and/or bodies. It just makes me want to make the "Mr. Ick" face. For fanfic, fanfic of similarly anime-ish characters that are having crossteam romances... and the Administrator never catches on or tries to do anything about it... Hello, Canon, people!

A separate pet peeve is inter-team romances/sex between genderswapped classes with no mention of prophylactics or birth control. I just find that makes me want to beat someone over the head with Solly's entrenching tool. Way to make your female character lose their, ahem, girlish figure...

Friendly neighborhood Admin stepping in.

I'm going to be frank and say a couple things to everyone. Get the fuck along, get over the butthurt, no your ass will not be patted, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but you are NOT entitled to be making ad hominems and needlessly attacking other people over their opinions.

This thread allowed people to express their opinions and have frank discussions over those opinions civilly. However, a few of you decided the thread was in the wrong because someone, somewhere might have their delicate sensibilities hurt. Grow up, be the bigger person and pull up your pants and get over it. For fuck sakes.

Also, there's a rule that has seemed to have been forgotten.

Rule 8: Do not create drama. See a post you dislike? You have three options:
a. If it breaks the rules, click the tick-box next to the poster’s name, scroll to the bottom of the page, type a reason in the "Reason" field and then click the "Report" button. Do not respond to it.
b. If it does not break the rules but offends your delicate sensibilities, ignore it.
c. Calm yourself down. Take a deep breath, count to 10, release. Go for a walk if you need to - just don't post stupidly in response to it.

If it helps, I can make a new thread with a less contentious title. Yes, as the OP, I have been trying to stay out of this, but If I changed "Fantard" to "Fanon", would that be better?

And Serain, I get that not everyone feels the same about certain kinks. I get upset about rape and Child abuse. The sarcasm was an attempt to be funny about the specter of pregnancy among genderbent classes. It was not an attempt to go "Oh, look at these people, they SO HORRIBLE!" I admit to having a problem with tone, I am a bit Asperger's, so I don't always get tone, either in myself or others. I am trying to get better about it, but I don't always think about how what I am saying comes across.Sometimes, I don't get it until much, much later. Sometimes, I don't get it at all.

Not trying to excuse myself, just to explain.
>> No. 10147
>>10142

Really the only problem I see is maybe the use of "Fantard". Otherwise, there's nothing being said in the actual content of the OP and the rest of the thread in it's entirety that suggests one group of fans are better than another. If anything it just shows the diversity with all fans. The culture of TF2chan has shifted and it's obvious to me that it's users are not the callous assholes people keep thinking they are. In fact, I have more faith in TF2chan users than I do in other websites. And really, people shouldn't be taking something someone said on the internet not specifically directed at them so personally. It's really okay. No one has been trying to make anyone out as being inferior, just not sharing one's personal taste.

So yeah, I'll close this thread now, but someone is welcome to start a similar one again. You guys were doing fine as far as I can see, even if I disagreed with some of the things being said, nothing ever felt like an outright attack against anything except the concepts.
